Michael’s Story

Our mission is rooted in the belief that no one should lose their life or face devastating consequences due to a lack of knowledge or preparedness in cardiac emergencies.

On New Year’s Day 2020, Michael’s life changed in an instant. At just 18 years old, he collapsed suddenly while playing basketball. Emergency services were called immediately, but when paramedics arrived, Michael had no pulse and wasn’t breathing. He was resuscitated on the scene and rushed to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with an anomalous coronary artery. To repair his heart, Michael underwent two open-heart surgeries. However, the cardiac arrest caused a lack of oxygen to his brain, resulting in permanent anoxic brain injury.

By God’s grace and mercy, Michael has become a living miracle. He has fought through cortical blindness, physical debility, and memory loss—relearning how to walk, talk, eat, and care for himself. Even in the face of such adversity, Michael found purpose. Today, he is an inspirational speaker, driven by a mission to empower communities to save lives through CPR education, AED access and training, and increased awareness of cardiac emergencies. Michael is deeply passionate about raising funds to support these life-saving efforts.

Michael’s story is a call to action and a stark reminder of the critical need for immediate response when every second counts. With Michael A. Simpson II leading the way, we have embraced a bold vision to transform how communities understand and respond to cardiac emergencies. Through his passionate leadership, we aim to empower individuals, schools, athletic organizations,  and workplaces with lifesaving skills and resources.

Facts About Sudden Cardiac Arrest

Sudden Cardiac arrest is a silent but devastating condition that can strike without warning, affecting people of all ages. Often caused by electrical malfunctions in the heart, it leads to an abrupt loss of function, making immediate action critical.

With awareness, prevention, and quick response through CPR and AED use, lives can be saved. At InGodsHands Foundation, we are committed to educating communities, supporting families, and advocating for better heart health to reduce the impact of this life-threatening condition. Knowledge and preparedness make all the difference.

Anoxic Brain Injury

Anoxic Brain Injury occurs when the brain is deprived of oxygen, leading to severe and often life-altering damage. It can result from cardiac arrest, drowning, or other medical emergencies where oxygen flow is interrupted.

The effects range from cognitive and physical impairments to long-term disabilities, making awareness and early intervention crucial. At InGodsHands Foundation, we are dedicated to educating communities, supporting families, and advocating for better resources and care for those affected. Through knowledge and action, we strive to bring hope and improve outcomes for survivors.

Family Perseverance

Family personal perseverance is the quiet strength that carries us through life’s most difficult seasons spiritually, it is the unwavering faith that there is purpose in the struggle, and that healing and hope are never out of reach. Mentally, it is the resilience to keep showing up, to hold one another up when the weight feels too heavy, and to grow stronger through love, loss, and legacy. It’s a sacred bond that transforms pain into power, reminding us that with faith, unity, and determination, no challenge is insurmountable.

IGH NEWSLETTER

The Power of Story, The Strength of Community.

In Gods Hands talks Community, and purpose through strategic storytelling

At InGodsHands Foundation, we know that every cardiac arrest event and every anoxic brain injury journey carries a deeply human story. For young athletes, the path forward may look different than expected, but their lives, dreams, and value remain just as powerful. For families, caregivers, and loved ones, the road may be filled with questions, challenges, and emotional weight. That is why storytelling matters so much to our mission.

Telling the story is our connection point to the people we serve. It allows survivors and families to feel seen, heard, and supported. It also helps our broader community understand the realities surrounding cardiac arrest and anoxic brain injuries—not only the medical urgency, but the long-term impact on young lives and the families who love them. Through these stories, awareness becomes personal, and compassion becomes action.

IGH is committed to aligning our work with supporters in the community and professionals who specialize in this field. By connecting with medical experts, rehabilitation specialists, advocates, and caring partners, westrengthen our ability to provide education, encouragement, and hope.

Together, we are creating a community that not only responds to crisis, but walks with families through recovery and beyond. This is the heart of our mission: to inform, uplift, and connect. Because when we tell the story, we remind every young athlete and every family affected that they are not alone—and that their journey matters.
